I started WELL because I was tired of waiting for change in a broken system.

Women make up over 70% of the healthcare workforce, but represent only a small fraction of senior leadership across the industry. And despite claims of disruptive innovation, healthcare startups do even worse on gender equity than hospitals and F500 healthcare companies. The percentage of women VC partners and the portion of deals closed by women CEOs of digital health startups have hardly budged in the past 5 years.

That’s not a small problem. It’s a systemic failure.

And, we cannot expect healthcare to improve or change when its leadership fails to represent half the population.

WELL is not only a community, it’s a movement that demands change.

Our movement began with a small group of women clinicians working at startups. We met for coffee, shared our challenges, and supported each other in advocating for change in a system that often didn’t value our contributions. By 2017, our meetups grew into large networking events. It was clear right away that there was a hunger for this; a desire for women to step into their full power.

We gathered online, and suddenly, women from across the industry and around the world could join our movement. Today, our network is over 1,000 women strong.

We’ve launched executive leadership programs, hosted training workshops, and developed guides and resources designed to help women claim greater leadership in digital health.

But we’re just getting started.

We’re launching a new membership because we know there’s more to do. We’re building the future of healthcare, and we’re excited to connect with women who are ready to take action with us.

The system is broken, and we won’t fix it by playing small. We’re here to lead and change it from the inside out.

If you’re ready to be part of that change, join us.

No more waiting. No more asking permission. It’s time to lead.

To the good fight,
Clare, WELL Founder
